Summary

ADAT, Alesis Digital Audio Tape, is a magnetic tape format used to record eight digital audio tracks on an S-VHS tape. It formed the basis for Alesis' multitrack recorders. Alesis introduced the first ADAT model in January 1991, and the first ADAT recorders were shipped in March 1992. In 2004, ADAT was inducted into the first TEC Awards Technology Hall of Fame for “starting a revolution in affordable recording equipment.”

Details

The ADAT XT 8 Track from 1997 records 16 bits per sample (ADAT Type I). With the help of locate points, it is possible to save sample-accurate positions on the tape. With the Auto Play and Auto Record functions, it is possible to start and stop recording at the right moment by entering and exiting at predetermined points. ADAT devices can be controlled externally with the Alesis LRC (Little Remote Control) and the Alesis BRC (Big Remote Control) Master ADAT controller.
