The instrument
The RS-09 with a 44-key keyboard combines an organ and a string ensemble. The predecessors of the analogue synthesizer were the RS-101 and RS-202 string ensembles, while the RS-505 appeared at the same time, all of which were significantly larger and heavier.
Details
The Roland RS-09 is divided into two sections of sound generation, with two oscillators that can be switched on and off separately. The organ section consists of different foot positions (16′, 8′, 4′ and 2′). The ensemble effect can be activated separately. One tone switch two settings: Tone I for a warm, mellow tone, Tone II for a very treble-heavy tone. The string section offers two foot positions (8′ and 4′). The attack of the strings is infinitely adjustable. The sound modules can be influenced by a global tone fader, which acts practically like an analogue filter. The decay behaviour is controlled by the common release fader. The ensemble mode has Mode I (faster) and Mode II (slower) settings. The vibrato (LFO) has delay time, rate and depth settings.
