Korg PolySix PS-6 Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer

The instrument

In 1982, Korg simultaneously launched two affordable synthesizers with different concepts: the PolySix and the Mono/Poly. The Mono/Poly is still a monophonic synthesizer, but with 4 VCOs and extensive modulation functions. The Polysix is a fairly simple 6-voice polyphonic single VCO synthesizer with 32 memory locations. Although it could not compete with the best polyphonic devices such as the Prophet-5 from Sequential Circuits, the selling price was significantly lower. The Korg Juno-6 / 60 / 106 series is based on a similar concept. An impressive 50,000 units of the PolySix were sold, while only around 10,000 units of the Mono/Poly were sold.

Details

The PolySix has a simple structure with one VCO (+suboscillator) per voice, VCF, VCA and an envelope as well as a simple LFO. SSM chips generate the standard waveforms sawtooth, square with variable pulse width and pulse width modulated. A 24 dB/oct low-pass filter has the parameters frequency, resonance, envelope intensity and keytrack (0-150 %). The VCA controls the ADSL envelope with programmable volume in 5 stages and the filter EG. A modulation generator with the triangle waveform has the parameters frequency, delay and level ponti.  (Source: Amazona)
