The instrument
The Roland S-750 is a 24-voice 16-bit stereo sampler with monitor connection. Sampling frequencies of 22.05, 44.1 or 48 kHz can be used. The S-750 must load its operating system from a floppy disc or a SCSI port. It can be fully operated with the built-in display and buttons or a monitor can be connected.
The S-750 is data-compatible with the S-760 and S-770. For the S-700 series there is a library of samples from Roland and other manufacturers, e.g. L-CD701 to L-CD705, L-CDC-01, L-CDC-02, L-CDP01 to L-CDP14.
Details
The sound generation of the S-750 is structured as follows: A sample contains the loop points and the loop mode, original pitch and fine tuning. A maximum of 4 samples can be assigned to a partial, which controls the panorama, level, dynamic crossfading with fades etc. Dynamic amplifiers, filters, envelopes and LFOs are also part of the partial. Up to 88 partials can be distributed as non-overlapping zones in the note area (splits) and form a patch (sound programme of a part). A maximum of 32 parts can form a performance with MIDI channels and output assignment. The volume groups several performances for data storage. The memory holds 2MB, but can be expanded to 18MB with the installation of a RAS-750 expansion board. (Source: Rolandmuseum)
