The instrument
Korg launched the O1/W series of workstation synthesizers in 1991 as the successor to the M1 and T series. In addition to the O1/W, which was only available until 1994, the 01/W FD, the O1/W PRO, the O1/W PRO X and the rack versions O1R/W, O3R/W and O5R/W were also available. The technology is based on AI2 (Advanced Integrated Squared), an improved version of the AI (Advanced Integrated) synthesis technology found in the M1. The sound generation is almost identical, but 16/32-voice instead of 8/16-voice, and there are more samples in the 6 MB ROM, including 254 different vibration shapes/multisamples and 118 drum sounds. The instruments also have two effect processors and a built-in sequencer.
Details
The Korg O3R/W Rack Workstation is the smaller version of the O1R/W with reduced control elements. There is no wave shaping in the sound generation and the sample ROM is 1 MB smaller. The 03 R/W has been specially designed as a general MIDI expander. For this purpose, 128 sounds and a drum kit are stored in the ROM area. In the RAM area, 100 of your own programs and 100 combinations can be stored and two additional drum kits can be programmed. Another 200 programs and 200 combinations can be stored on RAM cards (SRC-512). The workstation also has 32 oscillators, which can be configured as 32-voice single sounds or 16-voice double sounds. Envelopes are available for the oscillator (OSC), filter (VDF) and amplifier (VDA). The modulation possibilities are extended by the LFOs and the playing aids. There are two independent effects processors, each with 47 different algorithms, the reverb and echo programs achieve chorus, exciter, enhancer, flanger, distortion, phaser, rotary speaker, equalizer and combination effects and 16-fold multi-timbrality.
