The instrument
The Korg S3 was launched in 1990 as a supplement to the Korg M1 Workstation (1987). It is a production workstation for drum rhythms and has an almost identical sound generator as well as a song sequencer that can record external units multitimbrally via two MIDI outputs, various effects and extensive clock controls. The S3 was the successor to the DDD-1.
Details
The S3 works with 16 bit/37.1 kHz samples and 75 PCM waveforms. Each drum kit has 16 sounds, which are divided between two pad banks. For sound design, it has 2 effect processors that can handle 28 effects. The sequencer has eight tracks. Up to 30 songs and up to 251 patterns per song can be saved. Four tracks are available per pattern, each with 99 bars. This results in many possibilities for processing compositions. 75 samples are stored in the internal memory, more can be added via cards. The samples are grouped as attack and sustain samples. An 8-stage envelope, auto-pitching and a modulation matrix with 14 predefined links are available for editing the samples. (Source: amazona)
