The instrument

The Yamaha KX-5 is a MIDI controller without any sounds of its own, played with 37 keys from C2-C5. It is a scaled-down version of the larger KX1 with the same concept. It was available in different colour versions.

Details

The KX5 is equipped with velocity and aftertouch sensitivity, a ribbon controller for pitch bend, pitch and mod effects, unisono, sustain and portamento buttons, and a breath controller input. Up to 64 patches can be accessed via 8 buttons, 4 bank buttons and the sustain button. Two synthesizers can be controlled simultaneously with 2 switchable MIDI channels. The device is powered by 6 AA batteries.
