The instrument
The Roland CR-1000 Digital Drummer is a flat, digital rhythm machine with 24 fixed rhythms and MIDI. It has the same sample soundset as the TR-505 from Roland, but does not have its sequencer. Its predecessors are the TR-707 and TR-727, a successor to the CR-80.
Details
The rhythm patterns are grouped into 3 groups of 8 patterns. The patterns are: 4 x Rock, 2 x Disco, 2 x 16Beat, Waltz, 2 x Swing, Shuffle, Charleston, Ballad, Reggae, Tango, 2 x Samba, Merengue, Mambo, Cha Cha, Rhumba, Beguine, Bossanova. One variation, 4 fills-ins and one ending are available for each rhythm. A button is used to add handclaps (electronic handclaps). One control determines the strength of the accentuation, another the groove and others the volumes of 1. bass drum, 2. snare/rim/clap, 3. timbale/toms, 4. cymbals/hihat, 5. conga, 6. claves/cowbell. The tempo is set with a large rotary control from 28 to 249BPM or external MIDI clock synchronisation. (Source: Roland Museum)
