Yamaha NS-40M Studio Speaker System

The instrument

Yamaha introduced the first models of the NS series of speaker systems in 1967. The NS-40M appeared in 1978, at the same time as the NS-10M. Originally designed for home use, it was quickly adopted by studios. The system is equipped with woofers, mid-range speakers and tweeters.

Details

The NS-40M system is a 3-way acoustically suspended bookshelf speaker with a frequency range of 50 Hz - 20 kHz, a power handling capacity of 100 watts, maximum 200 watts, a nominal impedance of 6 ohms, and a sensitivity of 90 dB. The woofers have been designed with a lower resonance frequency for extended bass reproduction, and the dual woofer configuration delivers greater bass performance. The soft dome midrange driver operates from 1.3kHz to 5.5kHz. The relatively high crossover frequency to the soft dome tweeter (5.5kHz) minimises the power requirements of the tweeter and enables smooth reproduction up to 20khz. The crossover is constructed from three independent filter units.
