The Playtronica Playtron is an experimental musical interface developed by the creative studio Playtronica and released around 2016. Conceived as an interactive MIDI controller, the device allows users to transform everyday conductive objects—such as fruits, plants, water, metal objects or the human body—into playable musical interfaces. The instrument was designed not only for musical performance but also for educational workshops, artistic installations and experimental sound practices, reflecting the company's broader interest in embodied interaction and participatory music-making.

Technically, the Playtron functions as a USB MIDI controller that detects electrical conductivity between connected objects and converts these signals into MIDI note data. The board provides up to sixteen connection points, allowing sixteen separate conductive objects to be attached using alligator clips, each functioning as an independent trigger comparable to a keyboard key. When a performer touches the connected object while completing the electrical circuit, the controller sends a MIDI signal to a host device such as a computer, tablet or smartphone. The system responds with virtually no noticeable latency and allows the intensity and surface of the touch to influence the generated signal.
