The instrument
The 900PS from Korg came onto the market in 1975 as a monophonic preset synthesiser. It was produced as a supplement to organs in order to incorporate recallable sounds into the songs. These can also be modified using sliders and switches. A special feature is the Touch Bar, a metal bar underneath the 37 keys that can be used to call up modulations by touch. The keyboard can be played over 5 octaves.
Details
The 900PS uses an oscillator, a 2-pole low pass filter, an LFO for sine waves and an envelope generator with attack and release (sustain) to generate the sounds. It has 29 presets: The Percussion Group offers 9 sounds: Timpani, Electric Bass, Synthe Bass, Piano, Harpsichord, Shamisen, Banjo, Mandolin and Xylophone, the Singing Group 15 sounds: Tuba, Bassoon, Horn, Cello, Trombone, Sax, Voice, Clarinet, Accordion, Trumpet, Funky Trumpet, Synthe Trumpet, Oboe, Violin and Recorder. In addition, there is Scale Noise and White Noise for wind noise, sea noise and human whistling as well as three rocker switches for Harmonics I, II and III. The oscillator provides Saw Square Waveshaping. Modifications are possible via the envelope with attack and sustain. The specific cork filter traveller controls low pass and high pass. Portamento, vibrato and repeat are activated via the touch bar. (Source: amazona)
