Korg MS-50 Analog Modular Expander Synthesizer

The instrument

The analog and monophonic MS-50 was offered as an expansion module for the MS-10 and MS-20. It is based on the MS-20 and has circuits such as a divider and integrator instead of a keyboard. It can be played independently with CV/gate signals. While the MS-10 and MS-20 have internally connected signal routing, the MS-50 has to be patched. The instruments in the MS series can be expanded into a larger modular system with the SQ-10, for example.

Details

The Korg MS-50 synthesizer has a single analog oscillator, ring modulation and sample-and-hold. The VCO has triangle and sawtooth waveforms. The VCF is a 2-pole low-pass filter with controls for cutoff frequency, peak (resonance) and modulation depth. The VCA has controls for modulation intensity and low-pass filter. EG controls attack, decay, sustain and release. MG (LFO) has the waveforms: Triangle, sawtooth, inverted sawtooth and pulse.
