The instrument
Roland have been slow to bring out a budget version of their highly successful Octapad. The arrangement of the Pad5 consists of three large and two small velocity-sensitive pads. A small knob adjusts the sensitivity on a sliding scale between stick and hand play. The Pad-5 must be played via MIDI on an external instrument.

Das PAD- verfügt über 14 voreingestellte Rhythmen, die im ROM gespeichert sind: 8 Beat 1, 8 Beat 2, 16 Beat 1, 16 Beat 2, Rock 'n' Roll, Slow Rock, Funk, Rap, Shuffle, Swing, Bossa Nova, Samba, Cha Cha und Waltz. Jeder Typ verfügt über Original-, Variations-, Intro- und Fill-In-Patterns. Sie sind einen Takt lang, ebenso wie die Intro-Patterns, während die Original- und Variations-Patterns jeweils zwei Takte lang sind.
