The Computer Signals Archive documents an underwater climate research laboratory in the Arctic Sea in operation from multiple perspectives: the immediate acoustic environment through a high-resolution hydrophone, the electrical power drain of the observatory station with all its installed components, as well as the changing electromagnetic fields within the underwater box and right next to a picture-taking camera.
Artists Ben Kaczor and Flurina Mia Häberli were invited to explore the sonic potential of the archive and use it for their artistic work. The two concerts will be accompanied by a conversation between the artists, and Hannes Rickli, moderated by Roland Fischer. The discussion will focus on their experiences with the material, which comprises over 50,000 hours of audio recordings.
The sonic archive is part of an artistic research project by Hannes Rickli and is an initiative of the sound artist Valentina Vuksic. It is published for the first time and will continue to record for multiple more years into the future. The beginnings of the archive date back to 2012.
